The Evolution of Football Gets Aggressive

Some aspects of football are mundane. They are necessities that allow the game to continue and flow and have largely remained the same since the inception of the football league over two centuries ago.

The hoof upfield known as the goal kick, the handshakes at the start of the game and the throw-in to allow play to continue are prime examples of this.

Over the past few years though the humble throw-in has undergone a makeover and has been adapted acrobatically by Celestine Babayaro and more recently by Rory Delap, who kept Stoke in the Premier League with his missile like throw into the danger zone.

Delap used his skill with military precision and to great success, causing carnage in the penalty box of teams that are more adept and used to defending a more intricate and tactical form of attack, found in the Champions League and the top half of the league table.

As new form of attack it has been surprisingly effective considering its simplicity, but what if was used in an even simpler, if slightly more aggressive manner?
