Seven large explosions were reported yesterday in the Aston area of Birmingham, in what initial reports suggest is Villa’s season imploding in dramatic fashion.
The incident occurred between approximately between three and five yesterday afternoon and witnesses have angrily said that the Villa side contributed to their own downfall.
No one is reported to have been hurt in the incident, but it is thought that Villa’s hopes of clinching the fourth Big Cup spot have suffered an almighty and embarrassing blow.
The blast was so bad that Villa now face a uphill battle to even finish high enough to qualify for the Mickey Mouse cup, but even this will take substantial re-building work.
So far there has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, which ripped a hole in a Villa’s season.
Counterparts of Villa, such as Chelsea are rumoured to have been behind the blast, but it appears that a tired workforce lacking originality, ideas, discipline and belief contributed heavily to the disaster.
Minor tweaks to the starting XI and late substitutes were in vain as the Villa manager Martin O’Neill desperately tried to inject his side with some difference from every other game.
O’Neill confirmed after the match that there was no outside influence upon his sides embarrassing and untimely implosion.
He told BBC Sport “we were well beaten by a fine side but we were also masters of our downfall.
“We stopped competing at 3-1 and that’s unforgivable. We had the possibility of going 2-2 but it went 3-1 and the floodgates opened.
“It was a desperately poor performance against admittedly a fine side. We are devastated and we have to fight back from this.”
Having seen their season implode in similar fashion last season, Villa will be accustomed to the situation they’re in, however the feeling of recording their heaviest defeat in Premier League history is an unwelcome and embarrassing new scenario.
The blast leaves Villa seventh in the league and seven points behind Tottenham, having played the same amount of games.
The recovery from the incident will be important for everyone associated with the club, but surely now the remainder of the season will be focused on regaining some pride, beginning with a trip to Bolton.
Posted By Dan Mobbs - Sunday March 28, 2010.What a shit article. Its almost like something you would expect in a year 9 English assignment but more likely written by a fresh out of uni home counties prick trying ever so hard to catch the attention of the media big wigs…shite
Absolute rubbish article - pity I have just wasted five minutes of my life even bothering to read it.
The article wasn’t appreciated and that’s fair enough, but why make a personal attack on me? Why make a blind assumption that I’m a prick just because you didn’t like the article? Seemingly you have some underlying hatred of graduates or the home counties and from your pedestal on your high horse you feel it’s acceptable to personally attack people who you disagree with. Also, five minutes? How many times did you read it?
I agree with Chris B - this crap is not appreciated after yesterdays display by the famouse Aston Villa.
We are all feeling down at the moment and this article appears to be taking the piss out of us imo
If you cant have a laugh when all around you is falling apart then its a poor lookout. As Kiplin (IF) suggests its how you react to the hard times that defines the quality of the man. I have followed Villa through thick and thin, down to the third division and to Rotterdam, and will be back again at Villa Park as usual supporting the lads. OK so we have had a kick in the teeth, now is the time to get behind our best team in recent years. Wembley has to be payback time!
Dan Mobbs article is harmless fun and I’m glad there are people around with enough wit and understanding to poke fun with such insight.
Twice - I didnt believe what I was reading the first time! BTW I am a graduate, so don’t presume people who reply to you are uneducated morons!!
Northender - Well said - I would’nt want to be the next team that plays us and just off the subject John Terrys oomments about how he new that the villa players would run out of steam after 60 mins in yesterdays game - well lets see what happen in the semi final I hope they underestimate us because we will make them suffer UTV
Dan Mobbs again….. Well what a rubbish article just like the other one you wrote!
Why were there explosions in Aston? Wasn’t the game played at Stamford Bridge?

This article wasnt the best.. But that probaly got something to do with the result at the weekend. What else could he really write about the game!! Lets hope for a better result at wembley!!
