Guess the World Cup finalist from their transfer history

by Dan Mobbs

Only 12 nations have reached the pinnacle of football and graced the 20 finals of the World Cup since Uruguay won the inaugural competition on home soil in 1930.

That select band of players have written themselves into the annals of history, while the famous faces that have lit up the final game of each tournament have been etched across the minds of fans worldwide.

However, when all that’s left is their transfer history, these idols of world football can at times blend in behind a career which is on paper a little unexpected, confusing, or even surprisingly simple. What World Cup winner had a spell at St Andrews? Who had four spells at Vasco de Gama? And which finalist now plies their trade in the Indian Premier League?

There’s no prize for winning, but if you don’t answer them all correctly you will be forced to soberly watch Pudsey: The Movie in a private screening with David Walliams.

Good luck.

Great fun, thanks. I confess: only got 22 before having to research. The ones I got easily were the older World Cup Stars, probably as a result of all those sticker-albums as a kid!
