A desperately enjoyable own goal
Carried by their speed or a desperate lunge for the ball, some own goals can be almost unavoidable spectacles of farce. Ashraf Soliman’s does not fall into this category though. His did however retain the element of high farce.
Controlling the ball with his left leg following awing of air with his other foot, he looked up, took his time and the two-footed star delicately chipped the ball with his right into the corner of his own goal.
The goal came in the last minute of normal time with his side 2-1 up and sent his Israeli side, Maccabi Umm al-Fahm into extra-time against Hapoel Afula.
He went on to score the winner to send his side into the last 16 of the cup, but who wants to see that? Here’s Soliman’s career defining moment.
